De Inca's wisten waar ze hun tempels moesten bouwen! Of je nu bij de Inca-ruïnes van Machu Picchu, Choquequirao, Pisac of Ollantaytambo bent, de schoonheid van het landschap rondom de Inca-locaties is altijd adembenemend. De redenen voor het bouwen op zulke mooie maar op zijn zachtst gezegd "onpraktische" locaties zullen nooit worden opgehelderd, maar het lijkt duidelijk dat zelfs dit was gebaseerd op een soort bewondering voor zijn prachtige land. Wij willen je Peru laten zien zoals de Inca's hun land het liefst zagen: prachtige accommodaties op de mooiste plekjes. Vanuit zeer sfeervolle hotels bezoek je in twee weken de mooiste plekjes van Zuid-Peru, altijd op uitstekende locaties. Soms zijn het koloniale hotels in het hart van een stad, maar vaak zijn het ook herbergen te midden van prachtige landschappen. Een reis naar Peru is misschien goedkoper, maar als je waarde hecht aan sfeervol comfort en het kunt betalen, dan is dit de plek om het land van de Inca's te ervaren. Indien gewenst kunt u dit arrangement uitbreiden met bijvoorbeeld een verblijf in het Amazonegebied (zie “Rainforest Tours”) met een luxe Amazonecruise.

Dag 1 Aankomst in Lima
Deze reis begint bij aankomst in Lima. Een van onze lokale vertegenwoordigers haalt u op van het vliegveld en brengt u naar uw sfeervolle hotel in Miraflores.

Dag 2 Vlucht naar Arequipa en vrije dag
In de ochtend wordt u (waarschijnlijk vroeg) opgehaald bij uw hotel en naar het vliegveld gebracht. Vanaf daar vlieg je in iets meer dan een uur naar Arequipa. Arequipa is de op een na grootste stad van Peru en ligt op een hoogte van 2.400 meter in de Andes. U wordt naar uw hotel gebracht en de rest van de dag is ter vrije besteding.

Dag 3 Vrije dag Arequipa
Arequipa is een prachtige stad in een spectaculair bergachtig gebied. Door de ligging geniet het van een aangenaam lenteklimaat met koele nachten en overwegend warme en zonnige dagen. U kunt de dag doorbrengen met een bezoek aan het prachtige Plaza de Armas, een van de vele musea en natuurlijk het beroemde Monasterio de Santa Catalina.

Dag 4 Arequipa – Colca-Tal
Vanuit Arequipa begint de reis van ongeveer 6 uur van Arequipa naar de Colca Canyon. Tijdens deze reis kom je door het natuurreservaat Pampa Cañahuas; een reservaat waar veel vicuña's leven. De Abra Patapampa is het hoogste punt van deze route; een pas van maar liefst 4.910 meter hoog (hoger dan de top van de Mont Blanc!). Daarna daal je af naar de lodge bij het plaatsje Yanque, waar je de komende dagen verblijft. 's Middags kun je genieten van de prachtige omgeving waarin het hostel is gelegen met uitzicht op de rivier. Zodat u kunt uitrusten van uw reis in de tuin, in de spa of in het thermale water van het prachtige en comfortabele hostel.

Dag 5 Colca Canyon Tour
Vandaag staan we vroeg op voor de excursie door de Colca Canyon naar de Cruz del Cóndor. Onderweg stop je bij prachtige uitkijkpunten en passeer je kleine stadjes voordat je Cruz del Cóndor bereikt. Dit is misschien wel de beste plek in heel Zuid-Amerika om Andes-condors in het wild te zien. Het kan er soms behoorlijk druk zijn, vooral in het hoogseizoen, maar het blijft een uitzonderlijk spectaculair gezicht om deze vogels, met een spanwijdte tot 3,60 meter, soms maar een paar meter verderop te zien zweven. Na deze spectaculaire stop rijdt u door de Colca Canyon en bezoekt u de opmerkelijke Lari-kerk voordat u terugkeert naar de lodge. Met een bezoek aan de spa of het thermale water van het hostel kunt u de dag op een ontspannen manier afsluiten.

Tag 6 Colca-Tal na Puno
Na het ontbijt verlaten we de Colca-vallei en gaan we naar Puno. Hier keren we terug naar het hoogste punt, de Abra Patapampa. Voordat je Puno bereikt, passeer je ook een meer waar vaak veel flamingo's te zien zijn. Puno ligt op een hoogte van 3.700 meter aan de oevers van het Titicacameer. De rest van de dag is vrij om te doen wat je wilt. Een fascinerende optie is om de Sillustani Funeral Towers te bezoeken, gelegen op een schiereiland in de Umayo-lagune, een uitloper van het Titicacameer. Deze graftorens zijn waarschijnlijk gebouwd door de Collas en dateren tussen 1200 en 1450.

Dag 7 Dagtocht naar de eilanden van het Titicacameer
Vandaag vaart u vanuit Puno langs het Titicacameer naar het eiland Taquile. Onderweg bezoeken we de eilanden van de Uros-indianen. De oorspronkelijke Uros leefden op drijvende rieteilanden in het meer. Tegenwoordig zijn de Uros-eilanden puur een toeristische trekpleister, maar de rieteilanden bieden nog steeds een fascinerend inkijkje in het eeuwenlange leven van een bijzonder volk. Ga dan verder naar Taquile. Daar loop je rond het eiland en bezoek je het stadje waar je kunt lunchen. Loop 's middags de lange trappen af naar het meer en vaar terug naar Puno.

Dag 8 Puno naar Cusco
Vandaag heb je een transfer van Puno naar Cusco. Dit is een tocht van ongeveer 6 uur door prachtige landschappen. Bij de 4320 meter hoge Abra de la Raya pas kun je even stoppen om van het prachtige uitzicht te genieten. De tempel van Viracocha in Raqchi is ook een bezoek waard. Als je hier en daar uitstapt, ben je 9-10 uur onderweg, waardoor je in de late namiddag in Cusco aankomt.

Dag 9 Vrije dag in Cusco
Je bent vrij om deze dag van je reis door te brengen in Cusco, de oude hoofdstad van het Inca-rijk. Dat zal geen probleem zijn! Cusco is een bruisende stad met een prachtige mix van oud en nieuw. De originele Inca-muren, de musea, de Plaza de Armas, de drukke straatjes met souvenirwinkels, het pad naar de ruïnes van Sacsayhuaman met waanzinnige uitzichten over de stad en haar omgeving: er is genoeg te zien en te doen om je bezig te houden een paar dagen. Tot de belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden van de stad behoren ook de Koricancha (de tempel van de zon) en de barokke kerk van La Compañía.

Dag 10 Bezoek aan de markt in Pisac - optioneel
Op zondag heeft u de mogelijkheid om de kleurrijke inheemse markt van Pisac te bezoeken. Quechua-indianen (velen in traditionele kleding) komen van ver om landbouwproducten te verhandelen. Daarnaast is er geen tekort aan wandtapijten, keramiek en ander handwerk.
Eerst reis je naar de ruïnes boven de stad. In een wandeling van ongeveer 2 uur kunt u de ruïnes bezoeken en naar de markt onder de stad gaan. Hier heb je genoeg tijd om te winkelen voordat je terugkeert naar Cusco.

Dag 11 Reis per trein naar Aguas Calientes
Vroeg in de ochtend wordt u opgehaald bij uw hotel in Cusco en overgebracht naar de trein in Poroy. Dan volgt een prachtige rit van 3,5 uur naar Aguas Calientes, het stadje aan de voet van Machu Picchu.

Dag 12 Bezoek Machu Picchu en neem de trein naar Cusco
Vroeg in de ochtend reist u met de bus naar de fantastische Inca-ruïnes van Machu Picchu. Als je om 05.30 uur de eerste bus neemt, kun je de zonsopgang bekijken vanaf het beroemde uitkijkpunt Cabana dos Homemade. Tegenwoordig wordt de toegang tot de ruïnes streng gecontroleerd en mag je slechts een halve dag wandelen onder begeleiding van een gids. Aan het einde van de tour neem je de bus terug naar Aguas Calientes, vanwaar je per trein naar Cusco reist.

Dag 13 Vrije dag in Cusco
Je kunt vandaag in de stad blijven, maar een andere interessante optie is om naar de prachtige ruïnes van Sacsayhuaman te lopen. Deze ruïnes liggen op ongeveer een half uur lopen van het oude centrum van Cusco. Je hebt vanaf deze ruïnes een mooi uitzicht op het centrum van Cusco, aangezien ze iets boven de stad liggen. Het is een mooie wandeling met mooie Inca stenen en mooie uitzichten.

Dag 14 Vlucht van Cusco naar Lima
Je wordt op tijd opgehaald voor de transfer naar de luchthaven van Cusco voor je vlucht naar Lima. Dit arrangement eindigt bij aankomst in Lima; U kunt vanaf hier terugvliegen naar Nederland of de reis verlengen met een verblijf in Lima of elders in Peru.
